What is the 2022 Arts Education Conference: JOY: REMEMBERING WHO WE ARE
Joy | Remembering Who We Are, the 2022 Ingenuity and Chicago Public Schools Department of Arts Education conference, gives participants space to deepen their understanding of culturally responsive education. You’ll engage in thought-provoking conversations, community practice, and relevant strategic tool sharing to reimagine your pedagogy and curriculum.
The conference will empower you to more deeply actualize spaces where students become leaders of their learning and uniquely positioned to create art that expresses a complete story of who they are: one that remembers their joy.
Why is the theme Joy and Remembering who we are?
As a result of attending this conference, you will:
- Explore your unique intersections of identity and discover or reconnect with the aspects of joy within your own identity
- Explore best practices on what it means to be culturally responsive, and to center student identity in the relationship between teachers, students, content, and community
- Identify strategies to ensure that students’ identities and cultures are constantly engaged in their arts learning environment and experience
- Leave with tools or pathways to engaging students with similar work in their classrooms
Who can attend the Conference?
The Conference is designed for CPS arts educators (from district-managed, charter, contract, and options schools), local arts partner organization staff, and independent local teaching artists. CPS administrators, arts educators from other school districts, and other arts education professionals are also welcome to attend.
How do I register for the Conference?
Simply click here to register for the Conference in Zoom.
Registering will give you access to the main Conference meet link (which will include the keynote and the closing session). During the Conference opening, you will receive links to the breakout sessions. There is no need to register for any additional sessions—simply use the corresponding session links at the indicated times.
What is the registration deadline?
The registration deadline is April 8, 2022 at 8:30AM, when the Conference officially begins. We strongly encourage you to register before that deadline, so you do not miss out on any important information.
How much does it cost to attend?
Nothing—the Conference is completely free!
When and where can I find information on the Conference sessions?
A detailed conference brochure is forthcoming!
Can I reserve my spot in Conference sessions ahead of time?
No—but you don’t need to! We have ensured that all rooms for sessions can accommodate 200+ people at one time, so it will be highly unlikely that you will be unable to attend the session(s) of your choice.
How do I join sessions on the day of the event?
Registering in Zoom will give you a unique link to the main Conference “room” (which includes the keynote and the closing session). On the day of the Conference, you will receive links for all additional breakout sessions. Once you receive the links, you will simply join the session(s) you wish to attend by using the appropriate links.
I can’t attend the entire Conference—can I still come?
Of course! Once you access the main Conference room, there will be someone there to direct you and provide you with the necessary session links so that you can join when you are available. If you are a CPS educator, you will receive credit for any sessions you attend live.
Will sessions be recorded for later access?
Yes! The keynote and Conference sessions will be recorded and will be made available for viewing after the event has concluded. CPS educators: Please note that CPS will not be able to offer credit for asynchronous engagement in Conference sessions.
I’m a CPS teacher. How do I get clock hours (CPDUs) for attending the Conference?
Attendance records for all Conference sessions will be auto-generated in Zoom and sent to the CPS Department of Arts Education.
- Teachers from district-managed schools will be marked in Learning Hub for any Conference sessions they attended. Once attendance is marked, teachers can complete ISBE Evaluations to receive credit.
- Teachers from charter, contract, and options schools will be emailed ISBE Evaluation forms for any Conference sessions they attended. (This may take up to 2-4 weeks.) Once they return the evaluation(s), they will receive ISBE Evidence forms.
When will my attendance be marked in Learning Hub?
Attendance needs to be marked manually for all Conference sessions in Learning Hub and may take up to 2–4 weeks. Once attendance is marked, you will see the class(es) appear in “My Learning” along with the option to complete the accompanying ISBE Evaluation(s).
If I am an attendee and I have questions or need support during the Conference, who do I contact?
At each session, you will be able to send questions and comments via the Chat function to our room monitors, who will do their best to assist you. If you have trouble accessing Zoom to join the Conference, we recommend using the Zoom Help Center.
If I am a session leader and I need support during my session, who do I contact?
Before and during your session, several dedicated room monitors will be on-hand to assist with technical issues and to provide any general support you may need.
