Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s forward thinking and energetic professional development workshops will guide you through the process of creating truly meaningful arts experiences for students. Each workshop focuses on the vocabulary, structure and processes of dance and how each of these elements intersects and complements other curricular topics. All workshops are appropriate for general education and arts teachers.

The day's workshops include:
8:30 – 10:30 am Common Core: Dance As Text
Reading, writing, listening and speaking. Learn how the LA anchor standards of Common Core are at the core of effective dance programs. Activity # 44433
8:30 – 10:30 am Dance in Early Childhood Education
Explore effective strategies for introducing movement concepts into your curriculum using concept-based, developmentally appropriate dance vocabulary, lessons and activities. Develop classroom activities using appropriate dance vocabulary and structures and discover how to utilize the power of the young child's imagination to transform stories into dance. Get your students moving, imagining and making connections to the world around them. Activity #44434
10:30 am – 12:30 pm Performance As Curriculum
Take the performance experience to a new level! Learn to discuss and rephrase a work from Hubbard Street’s current repertoire with your students as a starting point for creativity. Activity #44435
1:00pm – 3:00 pm Dance in the Classroom
Interested in learning to use dance in your classroom? This workshop will introduce activities perfect for general classroom teachers interested in using movement as a teaching tool, to create effortless transitions, and assist in classroom management. Activity #44485
