At Uniting Voices Chicago, music isn’t just about singing—it’s about building confidence, fostering social-emotional growth, and creating a sense of community. In partnership with Ingenuity and the Creative Schools Fund, students in Chicago’s underserved communities are discovering their voices—both musically and personally. By uniting youth from diverse backgrounds, Uniting Voices fosters leadership, empathy, and self-expression. Their students don’t just share their voices musically, they also celebrate their personal voices, laying the foundation for global leadership.
With an impressive 100% graduation rate, the success of students in the program shows that the impact of arts education extends far beyond the stage. Starting at age 6 and continuing through high school, Uniting Voices nurtures talent, builds confidence, and shapes future leaders every step of the way. One third-grade student, after performing, shared, “I learned to be kind and have a kind heart.” This is just one of the many ways music is helping students grow, both personally and academically. From the first note to graduation day, they’re building a brighter future—one voice at a time.
Thanks to Ingenuity’s Creative Schools Fund, Peter Cooper Elementary Dual Language Academy received a grant to partner with Uniting Voices Chicago and launch a new choir program. Blending choral music with the school’s existing mariachi band, the program creates a unique fusion of musical styles while building bridges across disciplines. It’s a powerful way to enrich students’ learning and celebrate the diverse cultures that make up our school community.
Singing is more than just a form of expression—it’s a bridge to lasting friendships. School music programs create a sense of belonging, and every student deserves the space to explore their creativity, to think big, and to envision a future where they are an integral part of positive change. Did you know that Uniting Voices Chicago is cultivating the next generation of music educators through their Future Music Educators Program? This innovative, paid mentorship program supports collegiate and early-career music educators, helping them develop their skills and thrive in the field.
